Apply for MBA degree
You can apply flexibly throughout the year by filling in the online application form. This page contains all the essential information regarding the application process.
Who can apply?
HELBUS welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds whose experience supports their studies and their future success as leaders and business professionals. To be eligible, applicants need to meet one of the following criteria:
- A bachelor’s degree in business, management, or a related field from a university or university of applied sciences (180 credits), or
- A bachelor’s degree in a different field with a strong interest in business, management and/or entrepreneurship, or
Over 10 years of experience in leadership or managerial roles. If you’re applying based on work experience, please include a detailed CV in English. CV.

Motivation letter

- Why you want to study the MBA programme offered by HELBUS and the University of Northampton
- How you feel the degree will benefit you in the future
- Why you would be a good fit for the programme.
The motivation letter also reflects your English language skills. Therefore, it’s important to pay attention to correct spelling, good grammar, and clear structure. The letter must be written by you: letters generated by artificial intelligence, copied from the internet, or written by others will be immediately rejected.

Transcripts of previous studies
Attach your transcript of records and degree certificate from your previous undergraduate degree. If you have not completed a bachelor’s degree, but you have worked in a managerial position or had business or budgetary responsibility, you can apply for the MBA programme without a lower-level degree. In this case, attach an English-language CV that clearly details your managerial experience and financial responsibilities related to your work duties.
Recommendation Letter
Request a recommendation letter from, for example, a supervisor, teacher, client, colleague, or another person who can assess your suitability for the MBA studies. The letter must be in English, on the official letterhead of the recommender's organisation, and must include the recommender’s signature. You can find instructions for submitting the recommendation letter on the application form.
CV
Attach an English-language CV if
- you have not completed a bachelor’s degree
- you have completed a bachelor’s degree, but it’s over 10 years old
- you have completed a bachelor’s degree in a field other than business, or
- you are applying for the MBA programme based on your work experience.
In your CV, provide detailed information on your managerial and leadership experience, responsibilities, and job duties, in addition to your general work experience.
The CV, motivation letter, and recommendation letter must be in English. School and university transcripts can be in English, Finnish, or Swedish.
Proof of English Language Proficiency
All instruction at HELBUS is in English. According to UK practices, applicants’ language proficiency has to be verified before the admission decision. You can demonstrate sufficient language proficiency for the MBA programme in the following ways:
- Grade C or higher in the advanced English exam in the Finnish Matriculation Examination
- International Baccalaureate English A: Language & Literature or English B: grade 5 (SL) or 4 (HL)
- A bachelor’s degree completed in English
- IELTS (Academic and General Training) test or TOEFL (iBT) test
- Password Skills Plus test.
Required minimum scores for tests:
- IELTS (Academic and General Training): 6.5 overall (minimum of 6.0 in writing and 5.5 in each other section)
- TOEFL (iBT): 88 overall (minimum score: Listening – 17, Reading – 18, Writing – 17, Speaking – 20)

Admission decisions
If your application requires additional information or attachments, or if anything is missing, HELBUS will let you know promptly via email. Once your application package with all attachments is complete, it will be sent to the University of Northampton for approval. You will receive an admission decision a few weeks after submitting your application.
