I'm Nyan Thit, from Myanmar, and moved to Helsinki specifically to study the BA programme at HELBUS.
I really like Finland, even though the Finnish weather can be both exciting and frustrating at the same time! Finnish society is very inclusive, both in terms of administrative bodies and its people and businesses, and it’s easy for people from abroad to integrate into society and communities. The Finnish language is a challenge however, and Finns are shy by nature!
HELBUS really helped me adapt to Finland. What's special about the school is that the first- and second year students all interact with each other, so it's easy to form friendships and study groups. We have a really good student union, the HELBUS Student Core, where fun events are held and it’s easy for new students to get to know each other.
The teachers and professors are very good, experienced and international. The study structure, which focuses on one subject for a few weeks at a time, teaches time management and planning. This makes it possible to complete a Bachelor's degree in business in two years, which is really significant as I was able to earn my degree at the age of 19, which would be impossible at other universities. I now have more time to build my career and potentially some postgraduate studies, if I end up doing that. The short duration of the studies was also a financial benefit.
I am now 18 years old and what I find particularly good about HELBUS is that you can complete a Bachelor's degree in Economics in two years. This is really great, because I will have a degree at the age of 19, which is usually very rare at other universities. I'll have time to build my career and do some postgraduate studies, if I end up doing that. The short duration of my studies will also be a financial benefit for many people.
In the future, I may want to go into finance although I have already been able to find a rewarding job that I love thanks to this school.
