I had already spent a couple of years studying at the Open University when the idea of completing an MBA started to emerge. As a young adult, I graduated from vocational school with a qualification in business and then applied to study business at university, but didn't get in. I did some research on MBA and eMBA degrees and the prices were beyond my budget. I ended up Googling alternative schools and that's how I found HELBUS. The moment was right, I was motivated and started to research HELBUS more, as the tuition fees seemed really low. I wondered what the catch was but now, at the end of my studies, I can say that there was no catch. I didn't know anything about HELBUS, but an acquaintance of mine is a HELBUS alumni and, based on their recommendation, I didn’t hesitate to apply.
Studying in an international environment, in English, was important to me, so the University of Northampton was a good match. The application process also helped me to make my decision: the application was thought provoking and required real effort. It seemed like not just anyone could get in.
I have been really happy with my studies. I was impressed by the holistic way in which the content covered all aspects of management. I have learned to understand the big picture better, and to think strategically. I have been able to use the content immediately in my work, already during my studies.
I've been really lucky to establish a great network at HELBUS and to connect with my fellow students. I've learned a lot about other industries and received plenty of support and help.
I appreciate the fact that the other students are also experienced in the workplace because it gives me a great foundation and support for my own work and studies. The workload was surprising at first, but you quickly get to grips with it as you gain experience.
I would recommend the HELBUS MBA programme to anyone who wants to strengthen their management skills. The school is not free and demands a lot, but gives back so much more.
